Khaita at the opening of Bodhicharya-Kent center

UK, June 30th, 2025

“On June 30th , we were invited back to dance Khaita dances at the opening of a new centre south of London, for the local Sangha of Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.

We assembled a small group of British dancers, Ben, Anita, Peter and Cindy and a trusty roadie, Nicky, to film and generally help.

We chose 5 quite simple dances and wondered whether we could get people to join in.

When we arrived, it was very hot and sunny and there was a vast open bowling green , ideal for dancing on, about 50m x 50m. We waited for a bit of shade and then began slowly with So Ya Re Lo – What a wonder!

People gathered around in the early evening sunshine. Sadly, Ringu Tulku’s plane had been delayed so the schedule didn’t allow for us to present the dances to him this time. On the positive side, we were able to get the audience up and dancing and a joyful time was had by all.
We made some good connections, including a lone policeman who was very enamoured and said he was going to see whether we could organise something with the Kent police. (Later our photos appeared on Kent police website with good wishes for peace and cooperation within the community).

I gave him a Khaita bookmark and imagined policemen and women dancing in their uniforms. Wonders will never cease!

We hope this connection with Bodhicharya Kent sangha will flourish and see further collaborations in the future.

Epilogue…I ended up winning the raffle with a beautiful original calligraphy from Ringu Tulku and Nicky too won a book of Dharma teachings…”
